Restaurant Guide

The Atrium Restaurant

The Atrium Restaurant offers cutting edge food and wine set within a striking restaurant interior of canvas, copper, flickering lamps and dark wood tables. This atmospheric award winning restaurant is the perfect location for lunches, dinners and private or company events.

Situated in the west end of the city centre of Edinburgh, it is adjacent to the Usher Hall and the Traverse and Lyceum Theatres, in the heart of the financial district. The Atrium is within easy walking distance of Edinburgh Castle, Princes Street and the EICC.


The Dining Room at Boath House, Nairn

The restaurant at Boath House has been awarded 4AA rosettes and is one of only three restaurants in Scotland to hold this accolade. Head chef Charlie Lockley’s daily changed menus feature the best of locally sourced produce. Much of the produce during the summer months comes from the hotel’s extensive Victorian kitchen garden. Diners at Boath House will enjoy an ambient and relaxing yet intimate dining atmosphere in the beautifully restored Georgian mansion property with fine views to be from the restaurants windows out over the lawns and lake beyond.


Castleton House, Angus

Castleton House Hotel is an EatScotland Gold property and has consistently been listed as one of Scotland’s elite restaurants and dining experiences. The restaurant’s kitchen enjoys using the seasonal stocks of fruit and vegetables from Castleton’s small holding which also includes chickens, quail and rare breed Tamworth pigs which feature to much popular acclaim on the restaurant menu during the course of the year.


The Westward Restaurant at Crinan

The Crinan Hotel's Westward restuarant is on the ground floor of the hotel with delightful views looking out over the Loch. A set dinner menu offers a selection of dishes - typically including home smoked wild salmon, freshly landed prawns, wild venison and hill lamb - that have made Nick and the Crinan Hotel so justly famous.


Cringletie House

The contemporary cuisine at Cringletie is influenced by the abundance of fresh local high quality Scottish produce. Lunch is served during the week in the Croquet Lawn Brasserie in the Conservatory and on Sunday in the main restaurant.

Dinner is served in the restaurant and for those celebrating a special occasion there is a 7 course Tasting menu. The Wolfe Murray Room which accommodates 12 guests is the perfect setting for Private Dining.


The Cross at Kingussie

The Cross is a family run restaurant with rooms located in the cheerful village of Kingussie within the stunning Cairngorm National Park, surrounded by mountains, rivers and lochs. Champagne is served on the terrace in the summer and drams in a cosy lounge in winter. Dinners are served by an open fire in the stone walled and wood beamed restaurant. Menus feature carefully prepared fresh and seasonal produce and combine quality, simplicity, good food and a warm welcome.


Darroch Learg

In the conservatory style restaurant, candlelit at night, the ambiance is relaxed, and the service impeccable. The food is sophisticated and has been awarded three rosettes by the AA each year since 1997. Beef, lamb, venison and game are sourced locally and fish and shellfish are delivered from Aberdeen and the west coast. In 1997, Darroch Learg was the first in Scotland to win AA "Wine List of the Year". The Top 100 UK Restaurant Wine Lists book (published September 2006) scores Darroch Learg's wine list as the best in Scotland and Number 13 in the UK.

The Good Food Guide 2006 gives the restaurant the highest score in Aberdeenshire and in Scotland's Top 10. "Food fit for kings" says Scotland on Sunday.


Eilean Iarmain

The restaurant offers a cuisine that sustains health and satisfies indulgence. Dinner consists of four courses, with three choices at each stage. The menus reflect the abundance of fresh local produce from the Estate, specialising in shellfish and game. Langoustines arrive at the old stone pier, and oysters from the hotel's own oyster beds. The wine list is personally chosen by Sir Iain and Lady Noble, with changing themes. It has received Les Routiers Corps d'Elite Wine Awards. The second dining room can be used for intimate dinners and celebrations.


The Fairfield House Hotel, Ayr

Martin's Bar and Grill, part of the Fairfield House Hotel, situated on the sea front in Ayr, combines the best of fresh local produce with a fine range of wines and malt whiskies. Set in a lovingly refurbished Victorian mansion house, which recaptures the essence of country house hospitality, Martin's offers the highest standards of service, ambience and cuisine.


Gleneagles Hotel, Auchterarder, Perth

Enjoy fine cuisine - and great vintage wines - at one of Gleneagles' four main restaurants or eat simple, lighter fare at one of the bars or grills to be found at the hotel. Each has its own style but the hallmark of every one is freshness and flavour.

Situated adjacent to the spa, pool and leisure area, Deseo is perfect for all the family with a strong emphasis on varied and healthy eating all.

Deseo, is a lively and fun “Mediterranean Food Market”, offering informal yet delicious dining. Tempting aromas from various food stations change throughout the day, whilst the sense of theatre makes each station an attraction in their own right! Dinner at Deseo means whatever you wish or desire. You're free to order whatever you like, whenever you like, however you like it. Gleneagles invite you to leave your table and wander into the Deseo Emporium and Antipasto Table.

From the menu select from a range of appetisers, pizzas, pastas or alternative main course dishes, which are all cooked to order. If you want a quick supper or alternative starter, you can simply help yourself to the Antipasto Table.


Highland Cottage

At Highland Cottage the best of fresh ingredients are prepared taking the fullest advantage of what is available locally. Wherever practical, the seafood comes direct from the boats at Tobermory, landed by local divers and fishermen. The meat is the best well-hung West Highland stock - bred for quality. The ingredients are thoughtfully prepared and imaginatively presented. Along with fine dining goes fine wining (to coin a phrase) and the wine list is both varied and well-balanced. Wines are, in the main, moderately priced and represent good value for money. The restaurant is the only one on the island of Mull to have been awarded 2 Rosettes, by the Automobile Association.


Inverlochy Castle, Fort William

Dinner at Inverlochy is an experience to savour - the hotel has three dining rooms, each decorated with period and elaborate furniture presented as gifts to Inverlochy Castle from the King of Norway. The menu features modern British cuisine, which is internationally recognised by all major guides. Inverlochy has been awarded AA 3 red Rosettes and 1 Michelin Star.


The Hebridean Princess - Sailing west coast

Unless you are a guest onboard this delightful ship you will be unable to enjoy the Imaginative and exquisite dishes created from the freshest ingredients, sourced locally. The finest of cordon bleu cuisine is complimented with fine wines which is included in the 'all inclusive' tariff and carefully chosen by the sommelier from the ship's cellar.


Knockinhaam Lodge, Dumfries & Galloway

Enjoy a whole spectrum of stylish Scottish based cuisine, cuisine which is skilled, assured and great value for money. From delicious Scottish breakfasts (with continental breakfast always available) to a la carte dinners prepared imaginatively and carefully by the inn's award winning chef and his team. The food features, exceptional variety and subtle creativity. Local flavours dominate and shine through.


Livingston's Restaurant

This charming restaurant has built up an enviable reputation over the past twelve years and has consistently held the 2 AA Rosette award - an indication of the high quality of the Chef Julian Wright. In those twelve years, the ethos of Livingston's has remained the same: quality and service of the highest standards in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Set in the shadows of Linlithgow Palace which was the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots and home to all the Stewart kings, Livingston's is reached through a vennel off the main street. The exposed stone walls and decor add to the charm of the restaurant and garden.


The Conservatory Restaurant at Marcliffe Hotel

The Marcliffe's attention to detail, to comfort and luxury is reflected in the culinary detail to be enjoyed at the Conservatory Restaurant where, weather permitting, you can choose to dine on the patio. In the design and preparation of our menus our chefs can call on locally grown vegetables to compliment Scotland's finest fish, meat and game - reflecting the truly Scottish nature of the hotel and providing our guests with a real Connoisseurs Scotland experience.


The Milton Restaurant & Conservatory

With a reputation as one of the most accomplished restaurants in the North East of Scotland The Milton's kitchen team of award winners is renowned not only for the taste, texture and depth of flavour they impart to their cooking, but also for the stunning presentation of the dishes. Open daily throughout the year, excluding Christmas Day and New Year's Day, the innovative Brasserie and Dinner menus served in the Restaurant and Conservatory offer contemporary European cuisine. Winner of Taste of Scotland Grampian Restaurant of the Year 2007, Winner of Grampian Chef of the Year 2007 and 2008, Winner of Grampian Young Chef of the Year 2007 and second place in the Grampian Seafood Chef of the Year 2008.


The Dining Room, Myres Castle

Imagine the luxury of eating a formal banquet in the splendour of the dining room, or the total comfort of a simple supper at the family kitchen table. At Myres, you can experience both, prepared to the highest standards, using the freshest local ingredients. Polished mahogany, gleaming silver and sparkling crystal. A traditional Scottish sideboard, groaning under a wealth of breakfast choices. Candlelight flickering across the table as a sumptuous dinner is served.


Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa

The Road Hole Grill, the hotel's fine dining restaurant, boasts breathtaking views over the Old Course - the very best of Scottish and organic produce are used as the basis of a classical menu. Sands Bar & Restaurant on the ground floor features a range of Mediterranean influenced meat, seafood and pasta dishes. The Road Hole Bar, high above the 17th hole, is the only bar in the world to offer at least one malt from every Scottish distillery in existence. With a variety of stunning 'Afternoon Teas' being served in The Conservatory, a Scottish-American menu and carvery available at the Duke's Course and local ales on offer in the Jigger Inn, there really is something to suit everyone's tastes.


Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens

On the newly refurbished Bistro menu, which changes daily, you will find great classic and modern dishes with a Scottish influence, all supporting our philosophy of quality food, cooked simply with the freshest of local ingredients and sensibly priced.

Wine is, naturally, of fundamental importance with knowledgeable yet friendly staff presenting our incredible selection of carefully selected bottles at reasonable prices.

With capacity for 78 diners, the popular oak panelled Bistro is an intimate and atmospheric dining room, which welcomes both resident and non-resident guests. 

Please be sure to make a reservation in plenty of time in order to avoid disappointment.


The Peat Inn, Cupar Fife

The Peat Inn is a restaurant with rooms and since 1972 has enjoyed a reputation as one of the finest places to eat in Scotland. It is now run by Geoffrey Smeddle and the three small dining rooms make up the restaurant, providing an intimate setting for lunch or dinner.

With an extensive wine list of more than 400 wines and the freshest of local produce, all appetites are met, from the most sophisticated to the most indulgent. It is not just about the food, it is about the whole dining experience: the warm atmosphere in the restaurant, the extensive wine list on offer and the friendly elegant service you receive.


Pool House

Chef Daniel Hall received an Acorn Award in 2001 at the age of 26 and was a gold medalist for the Compass culinary team. His former rôles have included Head Chef on the Royal Scotsman Train and at Nick Nairn’s restaurant.

In the hotel’s dining room, named North-by-North West which reflects the geographical position of the hotel, Daniel takes full advantage of the abundant local produce. In the summer evenings the dining room is illuminated by the vivid colours of the glorious west coast sunsets.


Restaurant Martin Wishart

Martin and Cecile opened Restaurant Martin Wishart in 1999. It quickly gained an international reputation for exquisite cuisine and earning a host of accolades. The restaurant serves modern French cuisine, produced using the finest, freshest ingredients. Martin’s use of modern techniques and his unique style of cooking combining classical traditions with light, unique flavours has been popular with his restaurant diners. Both an à la Carte and a seven course Tasting Menu are available at RMW.

Uniquely, Restaurant Martin Wishart also serves a separate vegetarian à la Carte and seven course Tasting Menu. These change regularly and feature only the best seasonal ingredients, organic where possible from over 40 regular suppliers. The restaurant maintains a varied cellar containing over 400 wines from new and old world regions. Each wine is personally selected and updated to ensure vintages complement the cuisine.


Rhubarb at Prestonfield, Edinburgh

Richly decadent, stylish and fun, Rhubarb's grand-luxe style dining is beyond indulgent. Edinburgh's most opulent restaurant by far, Rhubarb is Prestonfield's hidden treasure, located in a matched pair of gorgeously grand oval regency rooms. Exceptional cooking demands exceptional Scottish produce, so a dedicated range of hand-picked artisan suppliers ensure that Rhubarb's inventive menus feature not just the best cooking available but the best ingredients as well.

The Scotsman Hotel

The North Bridge Brasserie is a successful contrast of marble pillars, oak panelling and the more contemporary steel and glass.

The tables allow you to keep an eye on Edinburgh while enjoying honest food prepared with care. You can choose from the Roast of the Day, a selection of steaks and fish and the famous North Bridge Pies.

The Brasserie is the last word in relaxed chic.


The Sheraton Grand Hotel and Spa, Edinburgh

The Grill Room offers fine dining at its very best. Awarded 2 AA Rosettes, the Grill Room is for serious lovers of good food. Always using only the freshest of local ingredients, every dish is a small masterpiece in its own right. Venison, salmon, fresh vegetables; choice and imagination, the menu has attracted gourmet diners from throughout the city, many of whom also enjoy selecting from our extensive wine list.

Santini's promise is authentic Italian cuisine served in one of the Capital's most stylish restaurants. The internationally celebrated Italian Ristorante Santini, which can also be found in Milan and London, offers authentic Italian cuisine of the highest quality. Santini has built its reputation on regional Italian dishes, using ingredients in season and traditional recipes. After being open only six months Santini Ristorante was awarded the accolade of 2 AA Rosettes. The less formal eatery Santini Bis is the perfect place for a meal in a more relaxed atmosphere.

With its views over Festival Square to Edinburgh Castle, the Terrace Restaurant offers informal dining from breakfast through to supper. The emphasis is on fresh food cooked 'live' by our chefs. Whether your choice is a full Scottish breakfast or a stir-fry for lunch, the Terrace provides an ideal venue to meet friends or business colleagues. In the evenings, the airy conservatory feel is enhanced by subtle lighting which complements the tempting variety of dishes being prepared to order.


Stobo Castle, Peebles

Each menu at Stobo offers superb quality and choice satisfying even the heartiest appetite. Not surprising when you consider the wealth of local produce to which we have access - salmon and trout, quality beef, game, lamb and venison as well as the freshest of vegetables and fruit. From this abundance our chefs create mouthwatering and imaginative dishes.

As one of Scotland's top spas, we will advise on calorie control and diet for those of you who want to lose weight or follow a special programme - but we don't believe healthy need be boring, expect to be excited!


The Royal Scotsman

Dining on The Royal Scotsman is a unique and exquisite experience. Our fixed menus reflect the seasonal changes and availability of an abundance of fresh local produce. The dining cars on the Royal Scotsman are consistently regarded as the best in any restaurant, moving or stationary.

Our cellar provides a range of fine wines, which are selected to accompany lunch and dinner, and we offer a wide range of liqueurs and malt whiskies. Both Dining Cars are beautifully decorated with rich mahogany panelling and luxurious fabrics.


Tower Restaurant & Terrace, Edinburgh

'I'm hooked on James Thomson's Tower.' - Clarissa Dickson Wright Spectacular views of Edinburgh's castle and city skyline are on the menu of Edinburgh's unmissable rooftop restaurant - the Tower. Conceived and managed by James Thompson who also owns Prestonfield's Rhubarb and The Witchery by the Castle, the Tower is Edinburgh's first and finest rooftop restaurant - and has become a must for celebrities, visitors to the city and it's fiercely loyal local fans who all love the chic interior, exceptional food and deft service that are the Tower's trademark style.


The Westin Turnberry Resort

Together with a healthy helping of classical Scottish dishes, traditional French cuisine in the modern manner is the style of food that prevails in the Turnberry's main Restaurant.Light, bright and relaxed, The Terrace presents a modern twist on traditional dishes for both lunch and dinner.

Situated above The Spa at Turnberry, the menu presents everything from a simple, elegant salad to a melt-in-the-mouth fillet steak.

All the restaurants share a bias towards fresh, locally grown produce with seafood and game delivered daily, along with fresh fruit and vegetables. True to his national roots, Turnberry's chef will not accept meat hung for less than three weeks, and needless to say, it has to be Scottish.


The Witchery by the Castle, Edinburgh
