Dining

Choose from two restaurants, including the Conservatory, a light, airy space filled with plants and fresh flowers, looking out over the leafy garden grounds. Here, you can enjoy traditional fare with a twist incorporating fresh, organic ingredients – many of which are sourced from the estate.

Or there’s the atmospheric, candlelit Library, where a delectable six-course tasting menu promises to tantalise palates – with wine flights to match.

Activities

The Douneside House estate and surrounding Aberdeenshire countryside offers myriad opportunities to enjoy fresh air, get active, relax or try something new.
The gardens and grounds offer plenty of walks, scenic spots and quiet nooks. There’s fishing in the estate’s lochan, along with a trove of walking trails that take in the area’s history and majestic scenery. Nearby Tarland has a 9-hole parkland golf course designed by Tom Morris. The hotel can book tee times, which are complimentary to Douneside House guests.
Just 35 minutes’ drive from the estate lies Balmoral Castle and Estate, which you can visit if the Royal Family aren’t in residence - we’d recommend checking dates in advance.

The magnificent 16th century Crathes Castle lies just over half an hour in the other direction towards the east coast. Its walled gardens, fairy tale turrets and rich wildlife make it a fantastic place to explore with kids.

For a more grown-up excursion, the famous Speyside Malt Whisky Trail beckons. Starting an hour away at Glenlivet, this legendary trail takes in no fewer than seven of Scotland’s finest distilleries. Sláinte!
