Otter Spotting Escape on Skye

Wildlife is one of Skye’s biggest draws. With over 400 miles of beautiful and unspoiled coastline it is home to diverse and healthy populations of puffins, eagles, porpoise, dolphin, minke whales, seals and of course, the ever popular and elusive otter.
While hotel guests are sometimes lucky enough to see otters pottering around the shores of Loch na Dal, Kinloch has teamed up with our friends at the nearby HQ of the International Otter Survival Fund to offer a two-night break that gives guests the greatest chance of seeing these native animals.

Otter experts Grace Yoxon, Helen Stephenson, or Ben Yoxon - who all have more than 25 years’ experience of studying and watching otters on the Isle of Skye – will lead a full day immersed in nature and breath-taking scenery. While nature isn’t an on-demand service, the main objective is to spot otters, as well as meet some of Skye’s other wonderful wildlife. Even if the otters remain out of sight, you’ll learn about them, including how to spot the signs that they’re nearby and track them in the wild without disturbing them.

Terms & Conditions

- Prices are based on two people sharing a cosy double, will vary based on season. Single supplement will apply.
- The second day of this package must fall on a weekday, as otter watching is only available from Monday – Friday.
- Ensure you pack good, waterproof outdoor clothing and wellington or other waterproof boots. While the walking isn’t long, or difficult, a reasonable amount of fitness is required, if you are unsure, we can put you in touch with the Yoxons who can advise in detail. You may also wish to bring your own binoculars, though a pair can be provided.
- It is difficult to spot otters in bad weather (especially high winds) so sometimes we have to cancel the activity. Where we can reschedule, we will; but should this not be possible during your stay, we will refund the otter watching fee in full.
