Guide To The Best Luxury Hotels In Edinburgh, Scotland

A diverse range of chic and exclusive accommodation in Scotland is just a finger click away… a click that ensures your luxury city break in Edinburgh will be one to treasure.

Written by Linda Jackson

There’s a je ne sais quoi about Scotland’s beautiful capital city, Edinburgh. For me, the city is like a strong magnet constantly pulling me into its embrace, but I don’t exactly know why. I can’t pinpoint it.

There’s also a new Club Level, worth the upgrade just for all the tempting perks I reckon.

Edinburgh

Could it be the fascinating history secreted within the cobbled streets of Edinburgh Old Town, the impressive architecture, or the fabulous views from Arthur’s Seat? There are museums, art galleries, theatres, botanical gardens; scary tours of Edinburgh’s dungeons; historical houses; castles; Scottish festivals galore, plus The Fringe of course… and a hundred-and-one other ‘must see’ attractions in Edinburgh. There’s no doubt that the excellent restaurants in Edinburgh are instrumental to the city’s magnetism too, many of which are located within Scotland’s outstanding luxury hotels.

Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa

Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa

Not exactly new (the hotel has been sitting in the same city hotspot overlooking Edinburgh Castle for 25 years) is the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa, but it might as well be considered brand spanking new. Talk about being dressed to impress… the Sheraton Grand Hotel has really gone to town, only very recently unveiling its refurbished stylish public areas to VIPs from around the world.

Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa Castle View Rooms

From the granite-floored elegant lobby and welcoming library to the 269 renovated high-tech bedrooms and bathrooms (choose mood lighting to suit), the Sheraton Grand is contemporary chic at its best. Standard rooms are amazingly not standard… they’re great.

There’s also a new Club Level, worth the upgrade just for all the tempting perks I reckon.

Edinburgh Castle

One Square, the trendy restaurant and bar, is open from early morning until late at night where residents and non-residents can eat whatever and whenever they like. Love the funky décor here, lime green and purple comfy seating; tailor-made glass ceiling baubles; big windows, outside terrace, welcoming bar and mouth-watering menu. All very stylish:  watch this space, it’s likely to become THE place to meet.

The Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa boasts wonderful views of Edinburgh Castle, a ten minute walk away, and is ideal for business with its impressive conference facilities; idyllic for spa-lovers with its vast luxurious One Spa complex; and perfect for theatre-goers.

One of the nearby Edinburgh theatres is the Usher Hall, a London Albert Hall look-alike venue which hosts major music concerts and events.

21212 Restaurant

21212 Restaurant

‘Out of this world’ is how The Guardian described the food at 21212 Restaurant with Rooms in Edinburgh which offers a totally different dining experience to any restaurant you’ve eaten in, I guarantee it. This Michelin-starred restaurant, owned by Chef Paul Kitching and partner Katie O’Brien, just back this week from Buckingham Palace with their latest award, offers a unique weekly-changing menu: sometimes dishes contain as many as 15 different ingredients.

Each course of this delectable fine-dining experience is a complete surprise. The kitchen is open and the chefs work so incredibly quietly in their quest for perfection.

The restaurant’s four individually-designed bedrooms gained the accolade of ‘Most Stylish Hotel in Scotland’ by the Scottish Style Awards judges: choose bedroom 1 or 21 for far-reaching views to the Firth of Forth and beyond. 21212 Restaurant with Rooms is located in a Georgian terrace in a quiet yet central location at the foot of tourist hotspot Calton Hill, within easy reach of Edinburgh’s up-market shopping district and not far from Holyrood Park.
