Things to do around Appin, Argyll

Sightseeing on the West Coast of Scotland - by boat Ideal base for cycling in Argyll Sightseeing on the West Coast of Scotland - by plane

'Where better to enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities than amongst the stunning scenery of the west coast of Scotland – you will soon lose yourself amongst your own thoughts.'

Whether you just want to relax or pursue more energetic activities, Airds makes an ideal base from which to explore.

There is plenty to do on foot or by bike, starting from right outside the hotel and exploring Appin or taking the ferry across to Lismore.

There are so many activities available in the area that they cannot all be listed, but perhaps the most popular are those that need little organising. The immediate area is particularly excellent for walking and cycling and many of the trails start right outside the hotel. A very popular route is to take the passenger ferry over to Lismore Island and walk or cycle its length taking in the beautiful scenery from various points on the Island.  Take a packed lunch with you so you never have the feeling of having to rush.

Hill walking in Scotland can be a magical experience. The Airds Hotel is just a short distance from some of the best walking in the Scottish Highlands, with Glen Coe, the Mamores, Ben Nevis and Aonoch Mor all within easy reach. Plus there is a host of easier, more low level walks which are perhaps slightly less strenuous, but which can still offer the enthusiastic walker an excellent and memorable day out.

Horse riding is available only a five minute drive away where you can ride on the shores of Loch Linnhe. There are many different boat trips available, one direct from the pier in Port Appin from where you can enjoy a  trip taking in the local sea and bird life together with an excellent view of Castle Stalker and many other historic sites.

Traditional country pursuits include deer stalking and fishing – both loch and river- mainly for trout. Deer stalking is a fascinating way to discover Scotland's landscape. The Airds can offer stalking experiences at all levels, whether you have never picked up a rifle before or are an expert looking for a challenging day on the hill.

We can also arrange light aircraft sightseeing tours from Connel Airport, a short distance drive from the hotel – a wonderful and very memorable way to see the West Highlands.
