Music & Film
Wherever you are
in Scotland the vibrancy of our artistic culture will draw you in to the true
nature of the Scots.
A warm and often introspective people, the Scots enjoy a
rich spectrum of cultural activities. | |

During
the year visitors will enjoy concerts and operas performed in some of Europe's
best concert halls and theatres by Scottish Opera and the Scottish National Orchestra.
Scotland is a regular host to a wealth of international performers and groups.
This is clearly visible during the Edinburgh International Festival when the Scotland's
capital city becomes the stage for one of the greatest arts events in the world.

On a smaller
scale visitors will find music, opera, theatre and ballet in many of the cities
and towns throughout Scotland. Every year in the small town of Pitlochry there
is a festival of traditional theatre that draws hundreds of visitors for all over
Europe. Little gems like the tiny Mull Theatre on the island of Mull and the Cottage
Theatre in Cumbernauld regular draw capacity audiences for evenings of live performances. Every
January Glasgow is host to Celtic Connections - a lively international festival
of folk and celtic music drawing audiences and influences from Ireland, Brittany,
Canada, South American and showcasing well known and emergent Scottish talent.
Film has always
been of prime importance to the Scots. During the 40s and 50s the Scots were renowned
as fervent filmgoers
and respected critics of films from every genre. Today
there are a host of specialist film theatres showing old and new films many of
them featuring Scotland's growing band of film producers, directors and actors. |
